Brief Autobiography: Jacob Sweet
My name is Jacob Sweet and I am from San Jose, California with my dad, mom, and brother. Luckily, I have not moved to a new house before in my life. However, my dad's family mostly lives in Orlando, Florida and we try to visit them once a year during a school break.
I have gardened before as a small hobby starting in first grade. It all started when we were creating small pieces of art on paper plates with seeds and glue; for some reason, I took one of the corn seeds and planted it next to my window when I got home. I was so proud when it grew taller than me and made enough corn for my family to eat during dinner. Now I enjoy growing a variety of cacti in my personal garden and since they are so hard to kill, it is very easy for me and quite relaxing to observe and water. My dad also has a food garden in that backyard and he cooks most of my family's meals from scratch. I usually go with him to help pick out plants and I always pick the ones that are the most abstract and new to me. When we come back with our plants, I get to help transplant and arrange them into the garden which to me is so much fun. He cooks with a bunch of different herbs from his garden and I am catching on to what each one looks and tastes like. So far, I have really enjoyed saffron and cinnamon, but I do not think he grows those. However, I really enjoy cooking small things like cookies or eggs instead of large dinners like my dad cooks, and my mom knows all about them, so we cook together a lot, occasionally even using my dad's plants. I sometimes shop with her for fun to pick out produce and from doing that I have learned a lot about how to tell when food is ripe which has been really useful since we have a plum tree and I can go out to it whenever and take a ripe plum. Since I am with them a lot, I have learned tons about gardening, cooking, and food in general. Hopefully after this project I will be able to understand more about how plants grow and develop.
