About Our Project

About

The Story of the Seed is a project that runs all year in which students learn about the life and growth of a plant starting from a seed. In the beginning of the year, the class is divided up into small groups where each team is given a seed packet with a type Brassica oleracea seed to use in the project and first experiment, the seed germination lab. After the experiment, the plants are grown without any tests and eventually the ten healthiest plants would be transplanted into the main school garden. We would then monitor the growth process of the plants throughout the year and hopefully reach the stage in its life cycle where it begins to flower and produce fruit. While this is happening, we will solve our own questions as well as questions the teacher asked, preform our own research, and do most of the things real scientists would do in their research (create a hypothesis, take photographs, record data with precision, analyze that data, and more). We would also create a blog to organize and keep this information. This project is meant to tie in with all of the units of Willow Glen High School's Biology 1-2 class and give us a better understanding of plant life throughout the entire school year.
